In harmony with communities

As a global organization with operations in more than 150 countries and regions, Bridgestone is uniquely positioned to co-create long-term social and customer value in communities around the world.

Bridgestone believes that co-creating value with customers, partners, communities, and employees is essential for sustainable value creation and that building trust is vital in this process.

Recognizing that building trust takes time, Bridgestone believes it is important to do so step-by-step by continuously improving its approach to the challenges and needs of each community through tailored solutions. With the “Bridgestone E8 Commitment” as an axis, and while empowering each other and the community, Bridgestone is committed to building safer, healthier communities and making education more accessible and inclusive for current and future generations.

In 2024, Bridgestone undertook 1,403 initiatives*1 in 37 countries and regions, including 1,191 initiatives with outside partners*2, involving 35,570 employee volunteers*3, and reaching 329,031 people*4 from local communities.

  1. Counting of “initiatives” varies by country or region.
  2. Counting of “partners” varies by country or region.
  3. The number of volunteers is the total number, including estimates for some activities.
  4. The number of people who directly benefited from the activities, which varies by country or region and only includes those activities whose status has been confirmed.

Impact of our social contribution activities

Since 2023, Bridgestone has taken steps to visualize its social impact, which refers to the “changes that happen to individuals, organizations, and the company, in the short or longer term, as a result of the activity,” as defined in the Corporate Community Investment Framework by Business for Societal Impact (B4SI).

Bridgestone believes that visualizing impact helps communicate to stakeholders the tangible results of its efforts. This approach also allows us to better understand how these activities contribute to creating social and corporate value, enabling us to capitalize on this understanding in improving our initiatives and in making effective decisions. Bridgestone focuses particularly on the impact of road safety activities on beneficiaries in the community and the impact on employees.

Message from B4SI

Clodagh Connolly
Global B4SI Director

Bridgestone has committed to global good practice through strategic alignment to B4SI’s Frameworks and standards, which are applied by the world’s leading companies. We commend Bridgestone for their active commitment to social impact excellence underpinned by their grasp of and commitment to B4SI, and we expect their continued and active engagement with others globally across the network of leading corporates to enhance a shared commitment to creating a sustainable future.

Impact on employees

Bridgestone believes that participation in social contribution activities fosters a greater sense of belonging to Bridgestone and its local community among its employees. It also boosts employees’ confidence and pride and improves their well-being. Bridgestone also believes that employees gaining value in this way will enhance corporate value in the mid to long term.

In 2024, Bridgestone promoted employee participation in the various regions. Bridgestone WEST implemented a “One Million Minutes Campaign” to foster a more robust corporate culture. In Bridgestone EAST, Bridgestone Asia Pacific, India, China (BSAPIC) formulated policies and set goals to create an environment that facilitates employee participation. The Japan segment also continued to foster an environment for employee participation, such as offering volunteer leave and creating a platform to register for various events, including third-party activities.

By taking advantage of the characteristics of each region, Bridgestone seeks to promote harmony within the community through employee participation.

Continuing from last year, Bridgestone conducted an impact assessment for employees. Among the 1,510 employees assessed, over 85% reported positive changes in their sense of belonging to Bridgestone and to the community, their skills applicable to work, their attitudes and behavior in life, and their personal well-being.

Quality Management Systems Chief
BRIDGESTONE COSTA RICA

Participating in Think Before You Drive Kids was a transformative experience. I enjoyed working with the children and teaching them about road safety. It was a unique opportunity to share important knowledge and connect with them in an authentic way. Seeing their faces full of curiosity while using the 3D viewer was exciting, as they learned by playing and understanding key concepts for their safety. Knowing that this activity raises awareness from childhood filled me with pride, especially since Bridgestone used innovative technology to leave a meaningful message. Experiences like this motivate me to continue participating in volunteering, which positively impacts future generations.

I never realized the youth could be so enthusiastic about road safety, and I’m proud that my efforts contributed to a solution for their daily lives.

Activities related to road safety

There were an estimated 1.19 million road traffic deaths worldwide in 2021, with more than two deaths occurring every minute*1. Road traffic accidents remain a leading cause of death among children and young people aged 5 to 29, highlighting the fact that this is a common global issue. Recognizing road safety as an area where it can leverage its strengths to make the greatest contribution, Bridgestone is focusing its global efforts on activities that enhance road safety.

Bridgestone established the Bridgestone Road Safety Program (BRSP) in 2023 as one program to generate synergies with its efforts worldwide. Bridgestone is moving ahead with the BRSP under a vision for road safety: “Life is a journey. Let’s make it a safe one.”, while utilizing the playbook, a practical guide for employees to implement road safety initiatives effectively created in collaboration with the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), an international non-profit organization in the field of road safety.
