W-BRIDGE Project

W-BRIDGE membership
W-BRIDGE membership

Bridgestone has been involved in W-BRIDGE (Waseda-Bridgestone Initiative for Development of Global Environment), a joint industry-academia project with Waseda University designed to contribute to environmental conservation. Since 2008, W-BRIDGE, which represents a new approach to environmental initiatives, brings together industry leaders, academia, environmental NGOs and consumers in the form of civic organizations to provide a framework in which partners can conduct research and other activities. In addition to disseminating information on its accomplishments to encourage participation, the project has facilitated dynamic environmental conservation activities through its role in Bridgestone's environmental management.

W-BRIDGE Research Presentations (Domain 1, biodiversity)

Each year, W-BRIDGE solicits ideas for environmental research topics in within four research domains categories which Bridgestone defined to be pursued by researchers at universities and other institutions along with environmental NGOs and civic groups. W-BRIDGE offers funding as well as advice and support for research and other activities to the institutions and groups chosen to conduct the research. During the program's second year (from July 2009 to June 2010), 12 research and activity programs were undertaken on, and two meetings were held for those involved to present the results of their activities in September and October (including registration as a partnership program of the COP10 Biodiversity Summit held in Nagoya). In addition to publishing a W-BRIDGE 2010 Activities Report, which providing provide an overview of the project's research and activity programs in order to introduce its accomplishments to as many stakeholders as possible, W-BRIDGE profiled it's activities at Eco-Products 2010.

Bridgestone also organized a W-BRIDGE Advisory Board in May 2010, to evaluate W-BRIDGE activities and discuss the program's direction. We invited outside experts to participate and received a range of views and advice from leading experts. A total of 18 research and activity programs, some of which were continued from the previous year, were selected for W-BRIDGE's third year, which began in July 2010, with a series of one-year research and other activities.
