In May 2009, a summer camp for motorists was held at the China Tire Proving Ground. At this camp, participants learned about eco-driving tips before they experienced a test ride to compare ordinary driving with eco-driving methods. The participants said that they were impressed by how much fuel consumption was reduced by adopting the eco-driving methods.

Bridgestone Safety & Eco festivals were held in Beijing (June 2009) and in Chengdu (September 2009). In 2009, we included an environmental awareness element along with safety instruction. In 2010, the festivals will be held in Guangzhou, Shenyang and Shanghai.

To support safer travel during the peak time of “spring travel,” Bridgestone China offered tire check services for free on more than 130 long-distance buses. In addition, to guarantee the safety of travelers during the peak time in July and August, we also supplied tire check services for free on over 120 long-distance buses.

“Happy Tangram” is a public welfare project focused on the education of rural elementary school students in China. In 2009, Bridgestone (China) started this project in order to give a helping hand to the students of four rural elementary schools in Sichuan Province, where a large earthquake occurred in May 2008. Through the class with Tangram(Chinese puzzle), we hope that it will bring imagination, creativity, beauty and happiness to the children in Sichuan Province that suffered due to the damage caused by the earthquake.

In 2009, Bridgestone China sponsored the “Eight Town” project, a community project committed to providing children a series of practical life and work experiences. The goal is to make children feel the joy of working and experience the fun of studying, while also nurturing a sense of responsibility to society and family.

Twice a year, Bridgestone (Huizhou) Synthetic Rubber conducts cleanup activities at a coastal swimming area nearby its plant. With the participation of almost all teammates, we pick up litter along the seashore and remove trash from the ocean.

Several executives and other teammates of Bridgestone (Huizhou) Synthetic Rubber visit local retirement homes each year before the Chinese New Year and donate rice and other consumer perishables.

Bridgestone Hong Kong engages in cleanup activities at facilities shared with other companies within the industrial district (such as the garbage collection area), as well as public roads and areas in front of stores.

Once every two months, all teammates of Bridgestone Electro-Materials (HK) take part in cleanup activities in the local community.

Bridgestone Electro-Materials (HK) takes part in tree planting activities that are organized by the local government. In 2007, a total of 20 trees were planted on the mountain around the company, while in 2009, a total of 20 trees were planted in a park located in Longgang District, in the city of Shenzhen.

To communicate the importance of water conservation and water-saving techniques to citizens and teammates, a water-saving campaign was conducted in India. For two days in various locations in the city of Indore, 90 teammates distributed approximately 10,000 water conservation leaflets and stickers.

A road safety and safe driving campaign was undertaken for three days in January 2009 in the city of Indore, India. This campaign was conducted to educate and enhance the basic knowledge of citizens and our teammates about road traffic rules and to support the city's traffic police at four major traffic locations. A total of 240 teammates participated in this activity.

In cooperation with local NGOs, Bridgestone India Private Limited (BSID) organized a campaign to educate and enhance the knowledge in the community about HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The campaign was carried out twice in each of six towns in the region. Awareness was created among villagers, local residents, truck drivers and school children by distributing leaflets, providing education materials, conducting road shows and offering individual counseling. During this campaign, BSID employees went to schools, truck parking lots, and door to door to create increased awareness. A major achievement of this campaign was motivating people to give blood samples for HIV/AIDS testing.

Teammates of Bridgestone India Private Limited (BSID), in cooperation with the local health department, participated in this health campaign. A poster exhibition was organized to promote understanding of the diseases and encourage the distribution of disinfectants to clean stored water and testing blood samples in a mobile lab. BSID felt proud at this opportunity to serve society and receive important feedback from the local community as well as other corporate bodies.

Bridgestone Kalimantan Plantation provides training for local farmers two times per year. As part of this training, farmers learn about the proper care of rubber tree plants and disease treatment.

The Potenza Driving Lesson is held twice a year for Bridgestone's customers and members of the media in Malaysia. In this event, there are four types of defensive driving course programs led by professional instructors. The event travels within the region in central, north and south of Peninsular Malaysia with the objective of reaching out to more participants and further promoting road safety.

Bridgestone Tyre Sales (M) Sdn. Bhd. embarked on a charity drive to help the less fortunate in Malaysia and improve their living conditions. This activity is conducted at least twice a year, and in-kind contributions are made to needy orphanages and retirement centers. In addition, our teammates volunteer to serve the less fortunate.
In 2009, the teammates visited the residents at the Seri Setia Retirement Home, in the city of Petaling Jaya, which is a registered charity that gives shelter to homeless and destitute senior citizens. The residents were treated to baskets of food and dairy products, as well as traditional Chinese moon cakes for the Mid-Autumn festive celebration. Most importantly, however, we brought cheer to the residents as we interacted with them.

Bridgestone Precision Molding Phils. donated medical supplies to a hospital. The funds came from the teammates who voluntarily donated the budget for their new company uniforms. All teammates are entitled to receive three uniforms every year but many of the teammates decided to do without new uniforms in order to help those in need. These teammates decided to donate that portion of the budget to buy medical tools, equipment and medicine.

Employees of Bridgestone Precision Molding Phils. (BPMP) volunteered their time to participate in a tree-planting activity that was held on September 27,2008, at the General Trias Municipal Forest Park, in the province of Cavite. BPMP, in coordination with other local area volunteers, supports this annual activity organized by the Municipality of General Trias.

On October 16, 2009, Bridgestone Precision Molding Phils. (BPMP) provided relief supplies for the victims of Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng through the emergency humanitarian assistance program. Donations were received from both top management and othe BPMP teammates. BPMP also dispatched volunteers to help sort and repack relief supplies such as rice, canned goods, clothes and other necessary items.

In cooperation with the Cavite Economic Zone (CEZ) and the Cavite Export Zone Investors' Association (CEZIA), Bridgestone Precision Molding Phils. coordinates the “A One-Peso Coin Can Save Your Life” project. This project is aimed at collecting voluntary monetary donations from the teammates of interested CEZ locations to help the victims of natural disasters such as typhoons. The project operates by distributing donation canisters to participating companies within the CEZ. The teammates are then able to use these canisters to make donations of “PISO (one-peso coin).”

In celebration of Earth Day 2009, Bridgestone Precision Molding Phils. (BPMP) helped plant trees with the theme “Save the Earth, Preserve Nature.” Earth Day is celebrated all over the world to highlight activities supporting the preservation and protection of the environment. Teammates of BPMP, representing different departments, participated in the activities, which included parades, contests, and exhibits, as well as the tree planting activity.

In 2009, Bridgestone Precision Molding Phils., Inc. through General Training Department conducted a “Basic Computer Learning Session.” This education activity helps teach basic computer skills to public school students from local communities in preparation for their high school and college workload. This class was held every Friday and Saturday for three consecutive weeks.

In Singapore, we support the Traffic Police with road safety campaigns and communications, as well as conducting tire check services on public vehicles during events at parks and shopping malls. Also, we provide tire safety seminars and workshops to car distributors and driving schools.

To increase the public's (especially drivers and their passengers) awareness about good tire maintenance and correct tire air pressure, Bridgestone Asia Pacific Pte Ltd. conducted a tire safety check activity in the parking lot of the Marina Square Shopping Mall. The participants received promotional bags containing a tire tread depth gauge, tire safety booklet and other small souvenirs.

The Darul Ihsan Orphanage operates two orphanages caring for a total of 32 children. In order to bring happiness, joy, and hope to these under privileged members of our community, Bridgestone Tyre Sales Singapore Pte Ltd., in coordination with other local area charities, organized a party for the orphans with educational programs such as games, a general knowledge quiz, arts and crafts sessions, balloon sculpting and a magic show. The day ended with birthday cake, a rare treat to help these children celebrate the occasion.

Mr. Hamashima, director of Bridgestone Motorsport tire development, held a seminar for about 80 students and professors from the Automotive engineering department of National University of Singapore(NUS). He made a presentation of our involvement in F1, F1 tire technologies, and after the seminar, we held the tea party with the enthusiastic students to deepen exchanges. An exclusive Force India garage tour was also arranged for the students the very next day.

We have provided funds to support the establishment of a nature and agriculture learning center and the development of related education programs for local residents in Thailand, which is a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative, WWF of Thailand and Bridgestone. We have launched this environmental program to help communicate the importance of environmental conservation to local children.

Since 2006, we have conducted Green Hands activities in order to enable our management team, our teammates who volunteer their time and their children, and local students in the loclal communities to participate in social contribution activities while learning about environmental conservation, waste management, ecosystem and biodiversity. In addition, participants have the opportunity to plant trees for green land rehabilitation to help combat global warming. Moreover, these activities also encourage stronger bonding between management, teammates, family members, local communities, government organizations and NGOs. We plan to hold these activities about 4 times per year.

“Bridgestone Lights the Wisdom” (Library for neighboring elementary school project) was established in 2002 to provide an important knowledge source beyond the classroom and communities. We coordinated with the Provincial Education Office to select around 5–10 schools each year in which to build a library. We contribute money for the construction or improvement of book shelves, tables, chairs and other library equipment as well as to buy new books. To date, we have built a total of 94 libraries, and almost 30,000 students have benefited from this project.

In 2003, Thai Bridgestone established a Science & Robot Learning Center in a high school in the northeast region of Thailand (1 province, 1 school) to support student learning and create a more student-focused learning environment. In addition, we have developed the school's management capabilities in order for it to be a hub for other activities, such as science and technology camps, science exhibition weeks, young scientist contests, and astronomy camps. We have also made contributions for materials for chemistry experiments, mathematics learning materials, and other science-related equipment. To date, we have built a total of 14 centers benefiting more than 50,000 students.

In Thailand, young children tend to drop out of school due to poverty and the significant traveling distances between their schools and homes. In cooperation with the Education for Development Foundation (EDF), a special NGO engaged in education development projects in the northeast region of Thailand, Thai Bridgestone selects junior high school students for three-year scholarships. Each selected student is loaned a bicycle to enable them to travel to and from school and their homes. The bicycles are maintained by the schools through a contribution provided by Thai Bridgestone. We started this project in 2006 with 300 students from three provinces, but extended the project to an additional 800 students from eight other provinces in 2009.

Since 2002, Thai Bridgestone has offered scholarships to students in extreme financial hardship and who have achieved consistently good education results. These scholarships are offered to provide education opportunities at 12 national universities in disciplines that are important to Thailand’s social development, such as engineering, science, agriculture or natural resource management, economics and law.

Bridgestone Sales (Thailand) educates car users (both drivers and their passengers) to recognize the importance of tire safety. Targeted groups include general car users, families, school bus drivers and students. Tire safety activities have been conducted 207 times between 2003 and the end of October 2009 at gas stations, department stores/super markets, tourist attractions, amusement parks, expressways, residential areas, museums/education centers, elementary schools, junior high schools, universities, and at the Thailand Tyre Proving Ground.

Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing supports an elementary school in Chon Buri Province, the Ban Khlong Yang School in Bo Thong District. Our support includes the construction of a place for students to brush their teeth, the repair and repainting of playground equipment, the donation of school supplies, and the improvement of the network in the computer room.

On August 15, 2009, team members of Bridgestone NCR participated in the local municipality area tree planting activities on the hill near Khao Ma Pood Temple to celebrate the birthday of the Thai Queen Sirikit. This activity is aimed to support the “grow green” concept in the surrounding area by encouraging Thai citizens to pay respect to their beloved queen.

Bridgestone NCR joined in Honda's Kathin annual Buddhist blessing ceremony in support of activities helping people infected with AIDS at the Wat Prabat Nampu Buddhist temple (“AIDS Temple”) in Saraburi Province. This temple is widely known as the “Center of Hope” for people infected with AIDS. The temple houses patients as they wait for various treatment options.

Bridgestone NCR conducted an anti-drug campaign under the “To Be Number One” Project overseen by the Thai princess HRH Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya. This anti-drugs campaign helps to send the message to Thai teenagers and adults to stay away from drugs.

Bridgestone Metalpha (Thailand) donated educational equipment and learning tools to elementary schools located in the Isan region, which is the northeast area of Thailand, as well as repaired school facilities, such as schoolyards, gyms, and restrooms.

In Australia, Bridgestone supports one of the Leukemia Foundation's major community fundraising events: Light the Night. In 2009, Light the Night celebrations took place during September and October at more than 20 different locations across Australia. At each event, people carried lit balloons to remember, celebrate and give hope to patients and families living with leukemia and other related blood disorders. As the major national sponsor, 228 Bridgestone teammates and their families proudly participated in the walks at a number of locations across Australia. These walks are a great opportunity to raise funds to enable the Leukemia Foundation to fund cars, which provide community transport services for Leukemia patients travelling to and from hospital for treatment. The Bridgestone family channel support the lease costs of the vehicles while Bridgestone employees assist with covering the running costs of these vehicles.

Jointly sponsored between the Firestone retail brand and Kea Campers, the Nature Park — a conservation program “Kea enclosure” is funded. This program is dedicated to the development and preservation of the native Kea enclosure at Rainbow Springs Nature Park, Rotorua.
Our teammates' involvement will ensure the provision of housing and environment protection for the Kea at this popular tourist attraction.

We sponsor two national driver training schools. In each, road and tire safety is a core focus of what is taught. We provide relevant merchandise and material, such as tire safety booklets, tire pressure gauges, etc. to reinforce Bridgestone's commitment to safety.

To reaffirm our commitment to the female market, a retail promotion was created where consumers can purchase metallic pink valve caps from any Firestone retail outlets or via a promotion-purpose Web site. We raised fund for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Society. The promotion achieved a high degree of interest.
