Tokyo (April 13, 2009) - Bridgestone Corporation (“Bridgestone”) today announced that, in response to the expected medium-to-long term increase in demand for radial passenger tires in the China market, it will increase production capacity at Bridgestone (Wuxi) Tire Co., Ltd. (Wuxi Plant). The Wuxi Plant produces radial tires for passenger vehicles in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.
Bridgestone applied to the Chinese Authority for investment to increase production, and it decided to strengthen its production capacity after receiving the approval of the Chinese Authority.
Bridgestone intends to start increased production at the Wuxi Plant beginning the second half of 2011. It plans a total investment of U.S.$98 million, which will enable it to increase daily production by 4,200 units, giving the plant an estimated daily output of 12,000 units once production capacity has been increased.
The Bridgestone Group, in addition to bolstering its supply capacity for the China market, which is forecasted to grow over the medium-to-long term, is continuing to develop its infrastructure, enabling it to rapidly supply high-quality products that meet local market needs. Including its Wuxi Plant, the Bridgestone Group now has a global network of 48 tire plants in 22 nations.
